- Do documents need to be translated or apostilled?
- From 3rd grade up, documents must be apostilled and translated by an official translator in the Dominican Republic.
- Is the currirulum aligned with US standards?
- Yes, specifically the New Jersey standards
- What support do you offer students who are adapting to a new county or school system?
- The counseling department will check in with new students to see how they are adapting.
- Every class has a homeroom teacher who is like their school parent. Every morning, students spend time with their homeroom teacher and they look after all of their students' wellbeing at school.
- We have a tutoring program after school to help students learn Spanish if they come from an English-speaking country.
- Does JCS follow the American calendar or the Dominican calendar?
- We follow both. The school year goes from August to June and we take both Dominican and American national holidays.
- What is the average student-teacher ratio?
- We have a maximum of 23 students per class and from preschool to 2nd grade there will always be a teacher assistant in the class to help too.
- Is there a school uniform?
- Yes. It can be purchased directly from the school.
- Is there a school cafeteria?
- Yes, we have a cafeteria that is open every break, lunchtime and after school.
- The cafeteria sells hot lunches every day, typically including rice, meat and salad.
- We focus on healthy eating so candy, soda, chips and cookies are not allowed.
- What safeguards do you have to keep students safe while on campus?
- We have a school nurse who is available at all times
- We run first aid training every year for our staff members to ensure that they are prepared to help in an emergency.
- We have security cameras to monitor the whole campus.
- The campus is secure with a security guard on the gate 24/7.
- We have fire alarms installed throughout the school.
- We run regular evacuation drills so that teachers and students are familiar with their evacuation routes in case of emergencies.
